Description

Samik De | Mahisasurmardini | Ink & Acrylic on Paper | 12 x 12 inches | 2024 (Unframed & Delivered)

This painting is a powerful depiction of Mahishasuramardini, the warrior form of Goddess Durga, created with ink and acrylic on paper. The goddess is shown riding her lion, the embodiment of strength and courage, as she confronts and subdues the demon Mahishasura beneath her. With multiple arms outstretched, she wields divine weapons, each symbolizing a unique cosmic power granted by the gods, reinforcing her role as the universal protector. The intricate linework and ornamental details highlight her regal armor and crown, while the floral motifs soften the intensity with divine grace. The vibrant orange and red hues of her attire radiate energy and symbolize her fiery determination, contrasted beautifully against the deep, textured crimson background that evokes the intensity of battle. The lion, captured mid-roar, adds momentum to the scene, emphasizing the ferocity of the goddess’s victory. Meanwhile, Mahishasura is portrayed in a posture of defeat, reinforcing the eternal theme of good overcoming evil. This artwork blends mythological storytelling with a rhythmic, almost geometric visual style, making it both devotional and aesthetically striking.
