All artwork purchases made through Gallery Kolkata are final. We do not accept returns or issue refunds under normal circumstances. This policy safeguards the integrity of our artistic relationships and preserves the condition and provenance of the works we represent.
Why Are Sales Final?
Fragility of Artworks: Artworks are delicate, and improper handling can compromise their original condition. Once sold, we cannot guarantee preservation.
Client Reservations & Missed Opportunities: Important works are often reserved during exhibitions or events. Post‑sale returns disrupt operations and deny opportunities to other collectors.
Artist Settlements: Payments to artists are disbursed promptly after sale, making reversals logistically and financially unfeasible.
Complexity of Returns: International and domestic returns involve customs clearances, documentation, and administrative resources that are not viable for our operations.
Color Variation: Due to differences in screen resolutions and color settings, artworks viewed online may vary slightly in color. Such variations do not qualify as grounds for return or refund.
Recommendation for Viewing: We strongly encourage visiting the gallery in person, or appointing a trusted representative, to view artworks before purchase.
Exceptions to the Policy
1. Proven Lack of Authenticity
If a purchased artwork is later verified by a recognized authority to be unauthentic, Gallery Kolkata will refund the full purchase amount along with shipping costs, subject to the following conditions:
The claim is made by the original buyer within one year of purchase.
The artwork is returned in its original condition.
Credible documentation from an established authority is provided.
No technology available at the time of sale could reasonably have determined the artwork’s lack of authenticity.
2. Transit Damage – Exchange Only
If an artwork arrives damaged due to shipping, an exchange (not refund) will be offered under these conditions:
The buyer must notify the gallery within 1–3 days of receiving the shipment.
Photographs and details of the damage must be provided promptly.
A replacement artwork will be offered from the same artist’s portfolio, of equal or higher value.
The final decision will rest with Gallery Kolkata and will be handled on a case‑by‑case basis.
