Description

Yugal Kishore Sharma | The Haveli-1 | Gouache & Gold Leaf on Handmade Paper | 15 x 15 inches | 2024 (Unframed & Delivered)

This painting elegantly captures the essence of traditional Indian architecture and miniature art through a contemporary lens. At its center lies a meticulously rendered haveli—a grand mansion intricately illustrated with arches, courtyards, windows, and terraces—depicting scenes of everyday life and cultural richness. Figures of elephants, cows, and human forms animate the architectural space, symbolizing prosperity, devotion, and rhythm of life. The artist frames this delicate architectural drawing within a bold red background, creating a striking visual contrast that infuses the work with both energy and calm. The small golden tree motif at the bottom adds a touch of sacred symbolism, representing growth, life, and continuity. Through its fine lines, muted tones, and compositional balance, the painting becomes a poetic reflection on heritage and memory—where tradition and modernity, structure and spirit, coexist in quiet harmony.
