Description

Jayasri Burman | Untitled | Pen & Ink Drawing on Sikishi Board | 9.6 x 13 inches | 2014 ( Unframed & Delivered )

This artwork is a pen and ink drawing by Jayasri Burman, created in 2014 on a Sikishi board. The piece beautifully reflects her signature style, where mythology, folklore, and fantasy seamlessly merge with delicate, almost lyrical forms. Human figures are intertwined with birds, animals, and flowing patterns, blurring the line between the real and the mythical. The use of intricate detailing—particularly in the feathers, hair, and waves — creates a rhythmic harmony throughout the composition. Burman often draws inspiration from Indian epics and nature, presenting them through a feminine, nurturing lens. Here, the fusion of humans with swans and other symbolic creatures evokes themes of divinity, transformation, and the interconnectedness of life. The minimal yet expressive linework enhances the timeless quality of the piece, making it not just a drawing, but a poetic narrative on paper.
